Marketing your business on a budget

Marketing your business on a budget

You are starting, or have started your business. It is a great business, but who knows how great it is? You do, maybe your family and close friends do. But as we mentioned, you are just starting out, or trying to take your business to a new level. How can you Market your business on a budget?

We have gone through many resources available online, as well as books available on the subject and have put together your Jumpstart guide to marketing on a budget.

Lets get started!

  1. Make sure you are targeting the right people. It is interesting because people think that they are marketing on a budget when they place an advertisement in a publication that reaches everyone at the same time. Wait, are you really trying to reach everyone? Do you really think that all those people that read that publication are going to be lining up to purchase your product or service. Well, I do not want to burst your bubble, but that would be the wrong way of budgeting your marketing. Instead market to the few (yes the few) that are looking for your services. Why? because you will then have to spend less time convincing people that they should purchase your service, and for the same price as a national ad placement, you can place an advertisement in several niche magazines. To sum it up, market to the few that are the type, and are in the position to appreciate  afford and adore your services.
  2. Join LinkedIn. For the uninitiated, LinkedIn is like Facebook for business. You can create a company page and list on there the services and products your company offers. You can also upload videos, slideshows and pictures onto your LinkedIn profile. People searching for a specific kind of service on LinkedIn can find you, all for free.
  3. Reach out to your current customers. Since your current customers have used your services, and are happy with you, they may be ready to try out a new service of yours. You can also ask them if they have some friends that may be interested. You can do this also via a referral program.
  4. Record some video tutorials pertaining to your industry. People love videos. If you have a clothing business, instead of just showing images of the clothing, share something fun/funky, funny etc. that shows the clothing in action. Even better if you show action that is interesting, different, and shareable! This will make it share worthy and get your cool marketing message around
  5. Post fun updates on Facebook. Don’t be dry and informative. Be bold, quirky and off the cuff. Speak in a personal tone, show images that are interesting that can tie in some way to a product or service you offer. People will get full information about your product once you have caught their attention.
  6. Get business cards that work double duty. Have a double sided business card designed for you. 1 side should contain your contact details and the other side has some important information that your contacts will want to refer to and at the same time, they get reminded of the services you offer.
  7. Join your local business networking groups. This of how you can help others and position yourself as a resource and expert in a specific field. Offer business specific tips sheets at these events. Make sure to include your business name and contact information on all handouts.
