Product Photography: How to get your products jumping off the page

Products, products, products. You can also call them things. We all have lots of things and see more all the time. Reminds me of the Dr. Suess book: Thing one and thing two! Anyways all companies have products or things they would like to sell, so they would like their product to look as real and enticing as possible, because since the consumer cannot physically touch the object, through great photography the product is brought to life.

Enter Product photography. One good thing about photographing products is that as opposed to people, they wait patiently for you, you can adjust the item, reposition your lights and take as look as you like (unless you are photographing perishables such as flowers).

We have assembled for you a list of tutorials and resources to get you started or continued on your road to product photography stardom. without further ado introducing our first segment about Product Photography:

1. A Step-By-Step Guide to Shooting Your First Product Photograph by Jennifer Carrigan. One thing I really like about most of the the Tuts network, is that the tutorials are well organized, with photos illustrating most of the steps. This tutorial breaks things down into clear simple steps. A great starting point.

2. The Simple Guide to Shooting a Perfectly Lit Product Photo by Flint Hannah. On to the next level, How to properly light your next product photography project. This tutorial will outline how to shoot a basic product shot. The emphasis will be on background, lighting, and the positioning of the product itself. The subject chosen to work with is simple – a shoe – it offers a great example to highlight the basics of lighting and shooting an isolated product photo.

3. Product Review: Modahaus Table Top Studios by Shane Parker. One thing that you may like to try are those tabletop studios. They come with some backdrops and this system works great if you would like all your product photography shots to look uniform. Read the review to judge for yourself if this method will work for you.

4. The Anatomy of a Still Life by Steve Sint. Steve Sint is a master educator. He led several Photography workshops at The Bold Edge and the students kept asking for more. His clear engaging style of teaching and many years of experience comes together to form a masterpiece. Steve has written a book on Still like Photography, Digital Still Life Photography: Art, Business, and Style will be released in January 2013.

5. Perfecting-your-product-photography by Meylah.[fusion_button link=”https://dl.dropbox.com/u/64158621/meylah_ebookseries_4.pdf”]Download here this short free ebook released by Meylah.
